Google TV is getting Gemini-powered photo editing at CES
The AI assistant will also be able to adjust TV settings and create slideshows as part of the new update. Google is working even more Gemini features into Google TV at CES 2026. The company demoed how the AI assistant would work on its TV platform at last year's show, and this time, it's expanding the AI's features to make it easier to do things like adjust your TV's settings or edit photos. The ability to view photos stored in Google Photos has long been a feature of Google TV, but as part of this new update, Gemini will be able to do a lot more with them, too. Google says Gemini will be able to search your Google Photos library for specific people and moments, and remix those photos into different styles or compile them into a custom slideshow.

Google's latest Pixel phone update adds new AI tools and a working thermometer
Google's rolling out its first update of 2024 for Pixel phones and it brings new health features and AI tools. Perhaps the most interesting new doodad is an actual working thermometer, which is only available for the recently-released Pixel 8 Pro. We knew this feature would come at some point, as the phone includes a temperature sensor and, well, a thermometer's the most likely use case. All you have to do is scan your forehead to see if your headache is just from staring at a screen too long if you have an actual fever. You can beam these results to your Fitbit profile and integrate them with other health metrics. The company's also giving that Tensor G3 chip a workout with the addition of a new AI-powered circle to search tool.
Copilot is coming to Windows 10
Ready or not, here comes AI: Microsoft is adding Copilot to Windows 10. But the new update, which will begin releasing to all Windows 10 PCs in the near future, contains features -- including Copilot -- that have accompanied the recent major update to Windows 11. If you've chosen not to upgrade to Windows 11 precisely because you didn't want to live in Microsoft's AI-powered, telemetry-fueled world, there is a way out. However, most consumers won't have access to it: Windows 10 Pro users that are managed by organizations "will not be included in the initial rollout of Copilot," Microsoft said. "Windows 10 Enterprise and Education edition devices on version 22H2 are also not included in the initial rollout of Copilot in Windows with this November non-security preview update."
Google AI Updates Universal Speech Model to Scale Automatic Speech Recognition Beyond 100 Languages
Google AI have recently unveiled a new update for their Universal Speech Model (USM), to support the 1,000 Languages Initiative. The new model performs better than OpenAI Whisper for all segments of automation speech recognition. A universal speech model is a machine learning model trained to recognize and understand spoken language across different languages and accents. USM is a family of state-of-the-art speech models with 2B parameters trained on 12 million hours of speech and 28 billion sentences of text, spanning 300 languages. According to Google, USM can conduct automatic speech recognition (ASR) on under-resourced languages like Amharic, Cebuano, Assamese, and Azerbaijani to frequently spoken languages like English and Mandarin.
Why *is* Bing So Reckless?
Anyone who watched the last week unfold will realize that the new Bing has (or had1) a tendency to get really wild, from declaring a love that it didn't really have to encouraging people to get divorced to blackmailing them to teaching people how to commit crimes, and so on. A lot of us were left scratching our heads. ChatGPT tended not to do this kind of stuff (unless you used "jailbreaking" techniques to try to trick it), whereas from what I can tell, Bing went off the rails really fast. And the thing is, the two systems are basically close siblings; OpenAI built ChatGPT, and is now presumed to be working very closely with Microsoft, using the same technology. ChatGPT was, I believe, mainly powered by GPT 3.5 plus a module known as RLHF (which combines Reinforcement learning with human feedback, to put some guardrails in place).
ChatGPT gets a new update to improve accuracy of AI chatbot
ChatGPT, the popular conversational AI model capable of mimicking human responses, has been updated with improved accuracy. Upon opening the interface the ChatGPT interface, users will be greeted with a new pop-up message that lists the changes in what OpenAI calls the "Jan 9 version" update. Provided by The Indian Express chatgpt update OpenAI says that the latest update brings the ability to stop generating ChatGPT's response (Express photo) It should be generally better across a wide range of topics and has improved factuality. The first point could pertain to ChatGPT's potential to spread misinformation. While the chatbot does have built-in functions to help it avoid offensive responses and factual errors, it's still far from perfect. OpenAI has also admitted that ChatGPT is susceptible to providing "plausible-sounding but incorrect or nonsensical answers."

Boston Dynamics' Spot robot is securing its position in a niche market
The Transform Technology Summits start October 13th with Low-Code/No Code: Enabling Enterprise Agility. Boston Dynamics has just released the latest update for its famous quadruped robot Spot, giving it better capability to make inspections and collect data without the need for human intervention. Called Spot Release 3.0, the new update adds "flexible autonomy and repeatable data capture, making Spot the data collection solution you need to make inspection rounds safer and more efficient." Unlike many other Boston Dynamics announcements, this one is not accompanied by a flashy video. But it could have a huge impact on Spot's position in the industrial mobile robot market, where it can reduce the costs of IoT instrumentation and the risks of exposing human operators to environmental hazards.
Google Assistant can finally pronounce names properly with new update
Google has launched a way for users to better improve how its Assistant pronounces names. Users will now be able to teach Google Assistant to enunciate and recognise names of contacts as they are supposed to be said. This can be found in Google Assistant's settings, under Basic Info, and then Nickname. "Assistant will listen to your pronunciation and remember it, without keeping a recording of your voice", Google says in a blog post. "The feature will be available in English and we hope to expand to more languages soon."
Google Assistant will let you teach it how to pronounce tricky names
Google is introducing a handful new updates that will make Assistant better at pronouncing tricky names and understanding the context of conversations you share with it. To start, you'll soon have the opportunity to teach it how to pronounce the names of your contacts, much like you can already coach it on how to properly say your own name. According to Google, "Assistant will listen to your pronunciation and remember it," with no need for the recording to be kept by the company. Google says the feature will be available in English first, though it "hopes" to make it available in other languages as well. Once you get the new update on your phone, tap the "Record your own" option under the contact field in the Assistant settings menu to get started.
PlayStation 5 owners can finally use extended storage for games with new update
An upcoming update for the PlayStation 5 will make it a lot easier to store your downloadable video games. Sony announced Tuesday it is rolling out the first major software update Wednesday for the PS5 since launching last November. The top feature coming to the video game console is support for external USB drives for storing PS5 games. If you run out of space on your PS5, you can transfer games onto an external USB stick to make more room. However, users can't play those games directly from the USB stick or download games directly to the drive, says Sony.
